Open Letter from Peter Zebedee, CEO of LNG Canada

Northern Health Authority has recently confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among our LNG Canada workforce, and has declared an outbreak at our site.
I know that hearing about positive cases at our project site causes stress and anxiety. I am concerned as well. For all of us, the health and well-being of our loved ones is our most cherished asset.
I want to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our workforce and those in the surrounding communities is my top priority and the priority of our entire organization.
Northern Health reports that there are no public exposures resulting from this event in Kitimat and the surrounding area. For that we are thankful.
We continue to work closely with Northern Health to do everything we can to reduce transmission and to ensure that everyone who tested positive is supported through their recovery.
Our actions include:
- Holding daily connects with Northern Health to review the steps we take to manage cases, and to support contact tracing and case investigation efforts.
- Thoroughly disinfecting and sanitizing, including electro-static cleaning, of the impacted work areas.
- Reinstating our work from home policy for non-essential staff.
- Working with Northern Health to actively review our existing COVID-19 safety plans and making all necessary updates as they are identified.
- Continuing to provide on-site medical care to those who have tested positive, in a designated isolation wing at Cedar Valley Lodge, separate from where the rest of the workforce is located.
For more information and frequent updates, please continue to visit www.lngcanada.ca and www.northernhealth.ca.
I know there will be questions about these cases and how they occurred. We rely on health authorities with the appropriate expertise to help us understand how the situation unfolded and how to best prevent future outbreaks.
Dr. Bonnie Henry has said that “until we have a vaccine, we know COVID-19 is going to be here in some way. And our job, our role, our goals in the next months is to make sure we learn how to live with this virus in a safe way that protects people.”
We take her words to heart. We know that people are counting on the LNG Canada project, and we remain committed to responding to all health and safety issues in the most responsible, timely and effective manner possible, always.
Thank you and stay safe.
Peter Zebedee
